What is the exact context of this?

The series was put on hold a because it involved Tokyo being laid in ruins or something. That was in the nineties, and the creators have published a ridiculous number of other comics since.

Yeah it's weird. There have been plenty of series that have had Tokyo in ruins since then, and heck, at least one anime that was specifically about Tokyo being destroyed by an earthquake.

(Anonymous) 2016-03-05 07:16 pm (UTC)(link)
^ And then the Tohoku earthquake of March 2011 happened.

On the one hand, yeah I would like a conclusion to the series. Even if I'm sure either Fuuma or Kamui are most likely going to die while the other mourns while wearing an eye patch.

On the other hand, and with CLAMP's current story-telling I'd say NO. I don't want to hear about Kamui being a clone whose existence is solely to fill in a void left by the real Kamui/Fuuma/a dirty sock and Fuuma's entire arc ending in him pulling an apocalypse because kouhai didn't notice him and it ending with more questions than answers. (YES I'M STILL MAD ABOUT HOLIC).

So yeah, maybe some things are better left unfinished (unless said things are the 12 Kingdoms novels goddamn).

Man, I hear that. I really loved reading the earlier xxxHOLIC and Tsubasa manga, but at some point around Vol. 18th of the latter and when Watanuki took over the shop, both series got too convoluted/petered out respectively.

For my part, it's the Acid Tokyo arc. For xxxHolic, I prefer to think of the anime as the canon *g*

Yeah. Personally I also feel the ending for Tsubasa, mostly the main villain's intentions, where really underwhelming. And the clone thing just felt pretty random. Holic got also fucked because of Tubasa's mess of a plot.

I stopped reading HOLiC around the time it REALLY started interlocking with Tsubasa, which was before Yuuko died. I loved the series to bits until that point, but it got weird as heck. Finding out how it ended just solidified my resolve to not read what I'd missed after I stopped.

FFFFFFFFFFFFYES on the 12 Kingdoms. Finish the novels, and then finish the anime!

[personal profile] herpymcderp 2016-03-05 09:11 pm (UTC)(link)
And then what? X/1999 hasn't been picked up again, as far as I know.

It'll never be finished.

(Anonymous) 2016-03-05 09:36 pm (UTC)(link)
And then the great Tohoku earthquake happened, with a tsunami and a nuclear meltdown.

[personal profile] herpymcderp 2016-03-05 09:50 pm (UTC)(link)
I read the secret too.

DA

You seemed to be asking what the 'And then' meant. Obviously. They answered.

(Anonymous) 2016-03-06 02:19 am (UTC)(link)
Huh, meanwhile CLAMP's favorite mangaka Araki Hirohiko used an earthquake (and also universe reset) to start off the current arc of Jojo's Bizarre Adventure.

Still can't believe that Cardcaptor Sakura owes its existence to JJBA.
