Character attraction, physical or otherwise

(Anonymous) 2016-03-05 06:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Do you find you are attracted to a certain type of character (any character from comics, books, movies, TV, etc.), or does it vary? Are you physically attracted to certain types, but not others? If it's not a physical attraction, what does attract you to that particular character?

With me it varies, and can be baffling even when I try to analyze it!

For physical sexual attraction, I like guys who look like my husband pretty much exclusively. Mind you, he's the only real person I've been physically attracted to (is this demisexuality?) so I think it's more that they look like him than the look itself.

For non-physical attraction, I love characters who are outrageous, absurd, ridiculous, passionate, over the top, etc etc. I don't always enjoy people like that in real life, but I'm very drawn to it in fictional characters.

I prefer people who look unique or striking to people who are generically conventionally attractive

If they look mentally dull, it's an immediate no. This has nothing to do with intelligence or education level, there are lots of people who aren't intellectual or educated who aren't dull, and lots of people who have decades of education but come off as sharp as a wall

My biggest commonality is 99% of them (-anime) are brunet(te)s.

I also prefer lanky over muscular.

I'm usually immediately attracted to motherly/gentle/submissive(? Not a term I'd apply to most of them, but it seems to be a widely accepted way of referring to such characters) male characters, though what I mean by attracted is a whole other can of worms (since I've yet to be interested in having sex with anyone, fictional or otherwise).

I find Vetinari attractive, but I think it's because I'm attracted to his unique character. I'm not attracted to other characters with similar personalities or looks.

I'm attracted to a wide variety of people but the one attractive feature that will get me immediately is distinctive contrast. So, brilliant blue eyes with black hair, or warm brown eyes with blond hair, etc.

I find atypical features more attractive than say, all those symmetrical bland CW types. Too samey for me. I'd take a Burn Gorman over a Jensen Ackles any day of the week.

Why have one when you can have both, anon? For the record, I have a thing for pretty guys like Jensen, but a Burn Gorman could probably charm his way no problem. I like interesting faces.

Physical is baseball or swimmer body. No preference for hair or eye color

I've seen a lot of different body types in baseball from thin wiry guys to big buff ones....

physically: tall thick af pale hairy beard dudes with dark hair and dark eyes and long noses. thick af or thin women with dark eyes and short hair and smaller breasts and bigger hips.

character: weasel jerks who only do things for themselves except for that one rare time they either have a crisis of conscience or do something that is seen as good only because it benefits them too.

What is "af" in this context?

More often than not they have dark hair, that's the one similarity any of my fictional crushes have(and then I've got outliers so it's not a 100% thing).

I seem to have a thing for knights in shining armor. I have no idea where it comes from. On the other hand, I also have a tendency towards animalistic characters, like werewolves or catgirls. I'm often attracted to inventor characters, too. And I've noticed that I often find characters with albinism attractive . . . I guess I have a lot of types.

Have you watched Merlin? Because that show lit my "knight in [not so] shining armor" fire like no one's business (I'm looking at you Lancelot...and eyeing Gwaine & Mordred [who looks like a guy I had a crush on for far longer than I wanted to])

Physically all over the place.

Character type, I'm really attracted to characters with a lot of drive. They're going to do the thing hell or high water.

I find there is most certainly certain correlation both in terms of looks and personality between the characters I'm attracted to. Not just characters, actually.

There's variation, but I tend to like tough women and weird men. In terms of actual attraction, tough women is easy to explain, lol. Weird men can mean a lot, but usually these days it's like. Men who seem to think (or their writers seem to think?) they're enacting Typical Masculinity when in fact their actions are just bizarre. Let's NOT analyze that one lol

Physically, I seem to go for tall, lanky guys. Hair/eye color can vary-I've liked guys with blond hair, guys with dark hair, guys with blue eyes, guys with brown eyes-there's not really a set preference. I also seem to like characters that have big hands and long fingers. Hm.

Personality-wise, I love the nerdy, intellectual characters. I love guys who can be witty, snarky and sarcastic when necessary...and yet, they're also vulnerable enough that whenever they're sad or struggling with something, I always want to give them a hug and take care of them :p.

I have types. I like some muscle on men. On women I seem to like muscle and also bigger chests. I like long hair, especially blonde, on everyone. I like nice asses and backs. I tend to like villains or characters who just enjoy what they are doing, whatever it is (angsty villains not so much).

Re: Character attraction, physical or otherwise

(Anonymous) 2016-03-06 05:09 am (UTC)(link)
Physically, it can vary but the general types are:
- Dirty looking (think Jack Sparrow)
-Long dark hair, possibly villainous (most likely villainous-- think Loki, Kahl Drogo, but the physique I prefer is toned/lithe.)
-intense eyes, and a mean smirk (and by mean, I mean the kind that makes you fainthearted)

Character-wise...apparently I have a tendency to like villains, people with dubious morala, or straight up Man of God. But even personality traits can difficult to pin: charming, mysterious, slightly arrogant, serious, adventurous--it varies.

Physically, I don't have a "type." Or even a gender.

Character-wise, on the other hand, there are a few things. Stoicism, intelligence, determination, a strong moral center, a dry sense of humor.

I am attracted to men with longer dark hair- examples include Sully from Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman (I was so sad when I found out it was a wig), Eliot from Leverage, and Brendan Fraser when he was in George of the Jungle.

Dark-haired white men, with an appreciation for stubbly or short beards. The beards have to be neat though, like a goatee.

This does not remain absolute, as I have taken a fondness to blond characters as well, but I know that I favour dark hair a bit more.
