IA. There's a difference between constructive criticism and bashing. Obviously it's difficult to tell where the line is crossed, but certainly you could (after amking a policy statement) ban those who are on the extreme end of things?

I don't really want to have to ban anyone, that's a last resort. But if someone ignores the stated rules so many times, we may have to.

The right for someone to be cruel or antagonize does not supersede the right for everyone else to have a good time.

Well are they being cruel, or are they just saying they don't like the idea? The latter is not the former.

There are some who've given reasons and they're not the ones I'm upset with. The ones who have nothing to say but "I don't like it" and "keep it to yourself" are. They offer nothing of value, just complaining.

That is still feedback. And it isn't cruel. It is feedback because it gives the author a quick survey of what fandom reception of their idea is liable to be outside of a closely knit group. They get to be able to decide whether they want to pursue the idea, and perhaps keep the fic for close friends or whether to release it more widely into other comms where people will probably go further than just saying they don't like it and it was a bad idea and will go cruel. It is an early canary in a coalmine response, so the writer can get early insight into market reception and tailor their release to suit how much negative feedback they want to risk.

Sorry but, one person saying "don't write it" is not the fandom's reception. Even a group of people in what seems to be a small section of a fandom saying they don't like it isn't the entire fandom's feedback.

And honestly? If someone doesn't want to read something they can make the choice not to read it. There are a bunch of ideas I've thought would be no good or a disaster that have folded out well.

No one likes to think their critique (and this I wouldn't even call as such) is cruel. But it is. It's also selfish. Because you know what, there are people who would be interested in an idea, and shooting the person who wants to read it because you and your clique of friends aren't, is really downright selfish.

A lot of people in this generation of fandoms (and the internet) need to get over themselves and learn that they're not entitled to the internet catering to them when they say they don't like a thing. Congrats, you don't like an idea. Claiming that your and your friends' input is the fandom's feedback is delusionally self absorbed.

There's no reason someone can't write something as long as they tag and summarize it accurately. It is allowed to exist on the internet.
