Watch once upon a time in mexico! It's the best within the mariachi trilogy (though desperado is a soft reboot...)
The genre has been dubbed "mexploitation" if you did't know, and I can also recommend "Machete" which is just as crazy. Gotta love Robert Rodriguez.
(On a related note I've come to like the movies of Fatih Akin for their similar approach to peripheral culture, though he's doing "Türksploitation", which makes much more sense in the context of my own country. But when I watched "Soul Kitchen" I realized why I had no problem understanding the dynamics behind Rodriguez' mexploitation films.)

I plan to watch it eventually! Once a month we have Grindhouse Nights where we watch Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez films, two per night. We've only just started (last month was Reservoir Dogs/El Mariachi) so Once Upon A Time In Mexico will likely be later in the year.

Next month is Four Rooms and From Dusk 'til Dawn :)

Fatih Akin is really something. I've seen two of his movies.

And every time I see his name, I read it as "Faith Akin."
