In my experience the more somone insists that fiction has to be completely sanitized and wholesom the more they have to hide themself.

Yep. I think I've seen it called the Umbridge Paradox. It's a phenomenon a lot of people have noticed--those that are the most concerned about morally upright, sanitized wholesome media are some of the nastiest people out there--and a lot of them have been caught out as hiding unsavory things themselves. Or they think their preferred fiction-nasty is okay, but somehow all the other ones are harmful.

This. THIS.

Ugh, there's this one person in my fandom who's this 40+ year old guy who is just always on and on promoting this vibe of how his ship is two heterosexual adults who have vanilla missionary sex for procreative purposes and how pure and good the ship it. And it just gives me the heebie jeebies.

Generally the people I know who are fairly open about their freaky preferences online tend to be the mildest ones ever in RL.
