Re: Tumblr Rant (mentions of sex & sexuality)

If you argue with anyone about anything on Tumblr, especially if it's a perceived social justice issue, you get attacked.

I'm bi and the amount of biphobia I've seen on their masquerading as progressiveness is bonkers. Apparently just calling myself bi means I'm transphobic (even thought dating a trans man or woman or a nonbinary person would not be an issue for me). Now the term is pansexual, apparently, and using the same one I've always used is terrible. It just feels so othering to me saying that if you're attracted to/would date trans people you have to use a special term.

Yeah, I'm bi too and I feel the exact same way about "pansexual".

Can't we all just get along? :(

Not sure what you mean by this, sorry? I have no problem with people calling themselves pansexual but the bi-bashing is pretty shitty whoever it comes from.

My bad, I thought the quotes meant you were mocking/skeptical of the term pansexual.

I think people should use whatever term they're comfortable with and people should respect their intentions with it.

Oh no, I didn't mean that at all. I'm sorry. I can see how it came across that way. It's not the term it's the way some people wield. I absolutely agree about people using the terms they're comfortable with and respecting their intentions.

You just apologized to blitzwing.

And? I don't have any problem with them. We may disagree on some issues but that doesn't mean I won't show the same courtesy as I would to anyone else.

She's a legit bad person though.

I don't mind "pansexual", but I think that's because when I was finally figuring out there was a term for what I was, "pan" fit my feelings better than "bi". Although I will admit to using the term "bisexual" if I'm talking IRL to someone not familiar with the rainbow of designations that have cropped up. They also don't have "pansexual" on forms, but they do have "bisexual", which I know now does fit according to the original definition.

I think what I'm trying to say is that I tailor what I call myself to my audience. Basically: if my potential partner is capable of informed consent, we're in business, whether they identify as male, female, genderfluid, animal, vegetable, mineral, or Time Lord. :p

I used to do this with "vegetarian" and "pescetarian" - the latter is what I was but the former is a word most people know, doesn't sound pretentious, and could be used to politely turn down chicken which was usually what was being offered to me.
