but not all of us are used to having our work critiqued like that,

The only way to get used to it is to have it happen.

especially something personal like fanart or fanfic

Original stories and art pieces aren't personal?

But not everyone wants criticism of their writing. Not everyone writes fanfic in order to improve as a writer, many people write it for fun. It's rather presumptuous to force criticism upon people while rationalizing that it's for their own good.

But not everyone wants criticism of their writing.

If you put something on an open public space you can't control the reaction it will get. That's part of making your works public. Lots of people don't make certain works public for that exact reason.

It's rather presumptuous to force criticism upon people

So any time someone says something that you didn't want to hear, they're forcing their words on you? I didn't want to hear this comment you made to me. Don't you think it's rather presumptuous of you to force your opinion on me like that?

while rationalizing that it's for their own good.

Did I say it was for their own good?

This. If I write an essay for my teacher I expect to be criticized. If I write a fanfic, it's for fun and a free expression of my creativity and to share with others who share the same interests.

I hate how people try to say 'criticism is for their own good' in cases when it's not asked for or even wanted.
