If there's a way you can apologize (even like a public post they might see), do so, word it gently but without beating yourself up.

If there's no way you can do anything about it, just remember in future not to give criticism when it's not requested. Even regarding whether something fits with canon or not. I mean, the point of fanfic for a lot of people is to create their own take (even if it seems pretty silly to other people sometimes).

Ultimately you can only learn from this and make wise choices in the future about how you interact in fan spaces.

Don't let it turn you off giving comments entirely, just try to be sure what kind of comments are OK for each writer. (Is someone trying to grow as an author and wants input on improving? Or are they a young writer just stretching their wings for enjoyment?)
