I can't believe after all this time Anders and Fenris still have batshit fans ready to defend them from any and all criticism, however mild. Or that fandom in general has changed so little from when I was a teenager to me being nearly thirty. I remember these hardcore ships wars from when I was still hardcore into anime, haha.

Yeeep, it's always the same shit, haha. Also when it comes to fans refusing to see certain characters with any sort of nuance whatsoever. They're either perflect flawless angels or the literal devil, no in-betweens.

I guess the super hardcore SJW side of this fandom doesn't help much with this, though? Especially once they've latched onto treating fictional oppressed groups 100% as seriously as real-life ones.

The ye olde Anders versus Fenris war has started up again. It's truly the wank that never dies.

A summary:
A newbie posts a prompt unintentionally bashing Anders, something which is against the meme's rules.
People start wank in the comments. The mods freeze/delete as appropriate and ask for the prompt to be reposted without the character bashing.
Prompt is reposted without the bashing. You'd think that would be fine, wouldn't you? BUT NO. More comment wank. The mods deal with it again.
This is not enough for the Anders stans. Several more prompts appear, all obviously making digs at the original prompt, some very obviously anti-Fenris.

OP. I do too. I think they're both very interesting characters. But there's a subset of crazy fans who won't tolerate any kind of criticism about one of them even though they're both very flawed and those crazy fans seem to really hate the other one and just bash them all the time, despite how hypocritical it makes them.

But don't let that put you off! They're still the minority compared to sane fans and I've never had any of the wank affect me personally. And I used to write hardcore Anders/Fenris hatesex :D

Well yeah, I mean the point of the characters - which I thought was pretty obvious - is that they both do awful things, but they are also both victims who do awful things as a result of all the awful things done to them. It's not a matter of "was Anders right or wrong" to me (though fuck the chantry, lol, I would've helped him blow it up if the game let me). Flawed characters are interesting.

And haha I would love to read Anders/Fenris hate!sex. Or a threesome with M!Hawke.
