Re: Do Americans really not take off their shoes in the house?

Awesome stereotyping, but no, a lot of people take their shoes off. I know I do, though I don't necessarily do it first thing through the door. (I actually prefer to take my shoes off in the kitchen, 'cuz putting them on/taking them off is a bit involved due to foot braces and the kitchen is the most convenient place to sit.) We just have no widespread cultural taboo against it. Most of us are just pretty clean people and we like clean houses, and that means if you track mud in the house you're probably gonna get yelled at.

Also, we have things like, you know, vacuum cleaners and stuff?
