This. I pretty much just assume that anyone who uses the word "sweetie" (unless they're your grandmother/elderly aunt/whatever) is an asshole

I dunno, it's common where I'm from in a non backhanded way. I have a tendency to sometimes use it with children, but I don't think that makes me an asshole.

But when people are using it this way, then yeah.
