LOTRips

Does anyone remember the heyday of the Lotr RPS fandom? Were any of you in it? Or familiar with its various wank fests and bizarre tinhats? Share your stories/opinions/ships here!

I wrote one teeny little Billy/Dom drabble and it was well received. And then I went back into hiding where they couldn't find me.

I used to read the RPS that I could find on Library of Moria and Of Elves and Men. I liked the AUs. Like, there was one where Orlando was a genie and another where I think he was transformed into a cat. I also liked the crossovers with other movies. Like Marton Csokas basically as his character in XXX (which I've still never seen).

I also really enjoyed the FPF/RPF crossovers. There was one where Haldir and the other elves were still alive and one of the actors got a "Haldir lives" t-shirt for him.

I actually read very few stories that were actually about the actors lives. I never found the fandom for the RPS stuff though, so I never heard about the crazy stuff.

my hed iz pastede on yay!

Stuff I remember through osmosis:

Crystalwank, where that girl (really badly) photoshopped the head of one of the actors onto a picture of some guy lying on her bed to "prove" she was friends with the actor.

There were some tinhats who were 100% convinced Elijah and Dom were in a secret gay relationship that PJ was forcing them to keep secret or something. Precursors of J2 I guess.

So many "the actors mysteriously get transported to middle-earth! OMG what happens now?????"

Lots of misunderstandings about New Zealand geography.

I think this was before the time of billions of dumbass coffee-shop AUs, but there were lots of "actorly" fics about being actors written by kids who didn't know what acting entailed.

Orlando fangirls.

I remember my sister being utterly obsessed with Orlando Bloom and having posters of him all over her room. I've never asked, but I wouldn't be surprised if she read or wrote rps about him.

I loved ViggoSean ship. The fics were really nice. I was unable to find one AU, actually, where one of them was a sheriff and they defended the law togeather. A friend from TOS fandom was also into this pairing, I was surprised to find.
And never forget Cassandra Clare's diaries with 'I'll kill him if he tries anything' and other catchphrases.

I generally find RPS pretty boring (I'm in the fandom for the characters, not the actors) but sometimes I'd read cute/funny not-sex short stories about (fictional) on-set shennanigans. I even ended up writing a drabble.
