+ten million, yes. I haven't read too many Snape/Hermione fics because I actually like the Trio and the Snape/Hermione I've read tend not to be very Trio-friendly, what with Hermione going around secretly (or not secretly) hating her friends because of course Snape is the only one who can ~understaaand her. Making me wonder why she even hangs around Harry and Ron. Harry gets it quite bad in those fics, and Ron, oh my god.

The Ron-bashing is so off-putting. Same reason I never read much Dramione, either.

SSHG also tends to be a little, er... melodramatic for my tastes. Like Regency romance melodramatic. They do write some hot smut, though. I've been known to skim their 200K epics for the sex scenes.

Always this. An unhygienic man in his late thirties who can't keep his temper around orphans and even poor NEVILLE is like, teh sex! While Ron, just some average kid trying to do the best he can, and who's smarter than he thinks he is but has self-esteem issues, is the true satan who has to die. And although he's the same age, him together with Hermione is "abusive". Shippers so crazy.

Like Regency romance melodramatic.

In my recollection, there was a certain amount of overlap between SSHG fandom and Austen fandom, with Snape being written as Mr. Darcy.
