Is it like a Cassandra-thing? Someone no one believes/listens to?

Elrond is my favorite character, but it's annoying no one listens to him in the movies.

Its actually a running joke in the fandom because no one really listens to him in the Silmarillion either.

I actually hate that joke because it shows how terrible the LOTR movies are, and how far they strayed from the books. And people listened to him. Just because Celebrimbor didn't, doesn't mean Gil-galad and Cirdan didn't.

I feel like there were more examples, but Celebrimbor is the only one I can think of at the moment. I don't think having Elrond tell Isildur to destroy the rings is so far off canon, though. There are definitely things in the movies that couldn't be possible, but that isn't really one of them I don't think? At least, while it didn't actually happen, it could have and wasn't too far of a stretch.

What does he even have to tell people in the Silm? He's a wee lad in the last chapter. 'Hey Maglor have you thought of maybe not kidnappping-' 'Nope.'

He, along with Galadriel, warned Celebrimbor not to trust Annatar. I feel like there are others, but I haven't been able to think of them, so maybe not.

Elrond! I have nothing productive to add to this secret. I just really love Elrond.

(Anonymous) 2016-03-10 12:11 am (UTC)(link)
I got nothing either, but I hate Elrond.

Aw. That's okay. I love him, but no one has to.

I love him, too! ♥

I got over it quickly, but did anyone else accidently call Elrond Agent Smith when they first saw Fellowship?

(Anonymous) 2016-03-10 12:37 am (UTC)(link)
"Agent Elrond Smith"

(Anonymous) 2016-03-10 02:16 am (UTC)(link)
It would be hilarious if Tolkien elves collected names and titles like Discworld's vampires.

His Excellency Agent Elrond Moonbeam Sugar Sparkle Jeffery ......Whippington Smith Sr. Code name Duchess.

It was actually the other way around for me because I didn't see the Matrix until several years after it came out. It was at least 2002 before I saw it, so Fellowship was already out at that point.

I still haven't quite gotten over it and still sometimes say 'Welcome to Rivendell Mr Anderson' at the point where Frodo wakes up in Rivendell.

Not unique at all but it's stuck.

(Anonymous) 2016-03-10 02:28 am (UTC)(link)
I go with "Welcome to Rivendell, Mr. Baggins. Same idea. =D

(Anonymous) 2016-03-10 01:52 pm (UTC)(link)
That, and joke about his role in Priscilla, Queen of the Desert ;)

"Smith. Elrond Smith, Drama Queen."

LOL poor Elrond. "Don't do the thing." "I'm totally gonna do the thing."
