The Triggering

(Anonymous) 2016-03-10 12:19 am (UTC)(link)
So I looked up this hashtag that's trending on Twitter, it's supposed to be so politically-incorrect and deliberately "trigger" people.

It's basically the Twitter equivalent of a twelve-year-old getting pissed and yelling a curse word at an adult, assuming that they'll be utterly shocked by how badass and edgy and adult he is.

It's just typical, not very witty or incisive insults, that these people post 24/7 the rest of the year: "White people have higher IQ than black people," "poor people just don't work hard enough!," "feminists are fat" and so on. But they gave it a hashtag and now they think people are going to be "triggered" by their crap, and they're posting gifs of people crying to celebrate how upset they made everyone.

But the dumbest thing is, don't they realize that even if someone WOULD be triggered by the stuff they post (and I seriously doubt anyone would be), they GAVE IT A HASHTAG which basically serves as a "trigger warning" so people can avoid it!

It kind of depresses me how utterly stupid people are.

It's honestly just same twitter shit except now I can avoid it. Ooh....how cutting.

What I always think of is that one Homicide episode where Braugher is interrogating Steve Buscemi, and Buscemi gas all this bravado and patter and this whole superiority complex, and Braugher slowly wears him down and proves him to be an incompetent fake. And Buscemi's character's only recourse is to start yelling the N word. Because he has nothing else he can really do in response. He's lost and this is his last resort.

The anti-sjws have never really been very bright.

Re: The Triggering

Not this shit again. Anti-SJW is anyone with half a brain because SJW =/= SJ activists. Are you perhaps one of them?

Re: The Triggering

(Anonymous) 2016-03-10 02:27 am (UTC)(link)
my experience with the vast majority of people who are outspokenly anti-SJW is that they are (a) absolutely terrible and annoying (b) deeply opposed not just to annoying people who believe in social justice but to the underlying ideologies of feminism, racial equality, etc.

I agree that there are very reasonable critics of SJW stuff out there but in terms of people who are visibly waving the anti-SJW flag, I don't think it's really true.

i'll take neither thanks, both sides are as bad as each other and equally blind to their own awfulness.

and honestly while i don't like the extreme ends of the sj sphere on tumblr the moderates are a lot more tolerable than any anti-sj i've ever come across.

No, anti-sjws are loud, annoying assholes who never grew out of 12-year-old shock tactics, and will defend to their death their right to make rape threats and scream racial slurs at the top of their lungs. They're the MGTOW and Rabid Puppy assholes who think anything remotely progressive is oppressive and pandering.

Non-sjws are the sane majority, who don't feel the need to wear it like a fucking badge when we can just ignore the tumblrina crowd and go on about our day.

They're not trying to be edgy, you idiot. They're doing it to test the new Trust and Safety Council and to monitor shadowbanning efforts.

Re: The Triggering

It's about ethics in tweeting.

Re: The Triggering

(Anonymous) 2016-03-10 12:43 pm (UTC)(link)
No, this is about internet censorship. If you google "Twitter censorship" or "Trust and Safety Council" and explore the results in depth, you'll find a lot of conservative hogwash, and you'll also find some compelling evidence that Twitter might be censoring tweets on a political basis.

Is harassment a problem on Twitter? Yes! But who decides what constitutes harassment in an age when students are "triggered" by guest speakers at universities? Don't you see that the problem with censorship is that one day YOUR ideas might be considered the wrong ideas by those paying for the servers?

That's a really stupid way of thinking about free speech and censorship. Here's an essay from a libertarian conservative about why!

"This is pointless and dumb" is not the same thing as 'triggered'. Or do you consider anything that isn't "lol this is so funny" as 'triggered'.

Re: The Triggering

(Anonymous) 2016-03-10 01:57 am (UTC)(link)
I supposed I'm grateful they're not posting actual triggering shit like real-life gore or dead bodies.

And is this really that big of a deal? I've seen zero coverage by any mainstream media outlets; just a bunch of right-wing websites going LOL WE TAKIN OVER TWITTUR and some stuff on The Mary Sue and We Hunted The Mammoth. It seems like every time the MRA/Alt Right tries to prove how awesome and powerful they are it just backfires, like the MM:FR and TFA boycotts.

Re: The Triggering

(Anonymous) 2016-03-10 06:48 am (UTC)(link)
It's not a big deal, it's just annoying and asinine.
