TV shows

Talk about what you're watching! Anything new you've seen lately?

I'm finally catching up on all the shows I didn't watch while studying for the bar. Caught up on Criminal Minds, Grinder (such an awesome show), Rizzoli and Isles, and Modern Family (not even sure why I'm still watching this). Still need to catch up on Agent Carter and then start watching Magicians and Expanse.

I was actually in the middle of watching an episode of The Grinder when I read this comment. It's such a cute show and I love Fred Savage and Rob Lowe in it (it's also really nice to see Natalie Morales in another show). My only real complaint is that I wish they would do more with Debbie's character, but I'm still only on episode 8 so maybe that changes

I love it so much. It is funny and the law stuff is actually pretty accurate. I usually don't watch lawyer shows, but for some reason this one grabbed me.

I like the Grinder a lot too! And as someone who is having Justified withdrawals, I love that Timothy Olyphant had a guest role (and that they threw in a Justified joke)

Timothy Olyphant as himself was hilarious.

Lucifer

[personal profile] ketita 2016-03-10 12:41 am (UTC)(link)
I just started watching this, and caught up pretty quickly. At first I was hesitant, because I wasn't crazy about the comic, and I didn't have much confidence in the adaptation - but it's actually pretty well done.
I love how the actor portrays Lucifer - I think he does a great job. And he's got great chemistry with Chloe.

I have some moments where I struggle to suspend disbelief, especially when it comes to what Lucifer gets away with, but I'm willing to let it slide as his "special abilities". There's a bit of plot contrivance, and they made Lucifer into a bit of a woobie, but overall I'm pleased with it.

Yes, I'm really liking Lucifer too. The two leads have good chemistry, and all the peripheral characters are great too. I sort of hope they don't keep Chloe in the dark about him being the devil for too long though, because that's already getting a bit old. I think there's more intrigue and drama to be had if she does find out the truth.

I have to agree with you - I really want her to find out so we can see what happens then, but since he bleeds now I don't really see that happening in the near future :/ now that she tried it once and it didn't go well, I think it would be even harder to convince her...

Re: Lucifer

(Anonymous) 2016-03-10 01:09 am (UTC)(link)
Well, I don't know. He still has a brother who can slow time. And he's super strong...although maybe that's gone too now that he's mortal. Anyway, there's a lot of interesting ways it could go.

Re: Lucifer

[personal profile] ketita 2016-03-10 01:21 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, but for that she'd have to experience the time-slowing first hand. The super strength, he'd probably have to do something REALLY blatant.
I am looking forward to seeing where the story's going.
I kind of hope that he and Chloe never actually get it on, though, and maybe she mends stuff with her husband. Just because Lucifer is jonesing so hard for it, and I always like when stuff like that is frustrated.

Personally, I find it a lot more tolerable than the usual kept-in-the-dark plotline, because she really isn't. She's doing it to herself. He's told her repeatedly, starting with when they first met. He hasn't taken any pains to hide any of his powers from her. She's the one who adamantly refuses to believe, and tries to explain away any evidence she sees. There's no finding out to be done, she just has to accept it.

I started watching Shadowhunters because I saw some photos of Magnus on my dash and I needed to see where he came from, and tbh I like it. It's not amazing TV but it entertains me, which is all I wanted and was more than I expected from it.

Also I love Magnus, a lot(actually all the characters have grown on me tbh).

Damien and Doctor Thorne

(Anonymous) 2016-03-10 12:49 am (UTC)(link)
I'm watching Damien right now, and it's nice to see Bradley James again, even if it's with an American accent. It's too early to tell if I like it or not though...

Doctor Thorne seems promising after the first episode (possibly a replacement for Downton Abbey?). The costumes are gorgeous, and I really like Tom Hollander as the titular character. Weird to see Allison Brie in a BBC period drama though.

Re: Damien and Doctor Thorne

(Anonymous) 2016-03-10 04:35 am (UTC)(link)
I just saw the first episode of Doctor Thorne too and it does look good, but I think it's only a miniseries with maybe three episodes total? I'm sure it'll be better than Downton Abbey, though. That show was promising, but it was a mess by season two.

A sporadically deteriorating American accent. I found it hilarious when he reverted to distinctly British sounding vowels at one point.

A channel's re-running a good slew of Law & Order episodes tonight. As always, I want to write at least three essays on how crazy-good the chemistry was between Connie and Mike.

The Librarians

(Anonymous) 2016-03-10 02:46 am (UTC)(link)
So much fun! So clever! It's the team who made Leverage so I trusted them and my faith was borne out: the character arcs were stellar, the competence porn was constant, and the serious was perfectly balanced with the silly. I love everyone?? Like as of season 2 I even love Jones wtf, and of course I've loved Flynn since the movies, and ahhhh. The second season wasn't as amazing as the first but I still had a jolly good time.

I haven't watched any of s2 (it's not streaming anywhere & I'm too lazy to stream it illegally) so I think I'm going to marathon it when the season ends, and I'm really looking forward to it! I love the show a lot even if it is super cheesy and even if my roommate does make fun of me.

Yes! I keep on being surprised that nobody is talking about what a cute, solid little show this is. It's not breaking any genres, it's not OMGSTELLAR, but as a fun romp it's really fun. All the characters are so adorable, and like you say, they're so competent! I love that they're actually competent!

It's not new but I recently finished watching Season 2 of Broadchurch on Netflix and now I'm all hot and bothered for David Tennant. Somebody welcome me to the club, haha. ;)

Hap & Leonard

[personal profile] ginainthekingsroad 2016-03-10 03:10 am (UTC)(link)
Is anyone watching? I've watched the first episode and am not completely sold on it, but I'm curious enough that I'll probably give it a couple more episodes just on the virtue of that insane cast. So far it's reminding me more of that episode of Archer with Ray's family than anything else.

I have been loving Black Sails. I started a few weeks back and I breezed through the first two seasons and now I have to watch this third season at normal one a week pacing. Boooo.

I'm watching Outlander! It's pretty good and I am enjoying the Romance. I was almost ready to quit when she ran back to Jamie though, I felt really sorry for Frank and hoping she would go back to him. Overall it is entertaining, the music is relaxing and the acting is superb!

Supernatural

I'm really interested in how that whole summoning thing works.
