Re: I fucked up ...

Just got word that supervisor #2 in my dept. is leaving and just as conversation I asked the guy who applied for #3 position that I got a year ago was going to apply for his spot. (I'm pretty sure that at the time the only reason I got #3 was because he didn't like that shift and didn't want it as long as there was somebody else who did.)

He said he was going to apply, an I don't know what I was thinking when I lightheartedly said I wouldn't fight him on this one. Because what if the other supes want to nudge me to that spot? What if when the job opens up I feel more confident than I did in that moment talking to someone who has 20 more years experience than me?

Basically now if I change my mind Ivm a liar but if I don't apply (or take an offer) it may be years before I ever get the chance to advance again.

Yep, you fucked up. Sorry, dude. Maybe next time.

It'd be pretty shitty to apply unprompted now, but if an offer is made, anyonen else in your sshoes would take it. Don't let an offhand comment dictate your future.

Circumstances can change, which can lead to people changing their minds, so if your supervisors do indicate that they want you for the job I don't see why you wouldn't have the option of going for it in that case. Don't worry so much about what that guy might think of you.

You sound like a woman falling into the trap of shooting yourself in the foot when advancement opportunities do happen to come your way. Fuck being nice because "girls are supposed to." If you want it, go for it.

you can change your mind. if you want it go for it.

if you want to be nice as possible just give the guy a little warning. ' 'yeah i changed my mind and thought i'd apply'
