Team Captain America or team Iron Man?
(Anonymous) 2016-03-11 01:29 am (UTC)(link)Re: Team Captain America or team Iron Man?
(Anonymous) 2016-03-11 01:35 am (UTC)(link)I'm sympathetic to Team Cap, but I'll probably root for Team Iron Man because I like Tony, and he has Natasha and Rhodey while Cap has Hawkeye and Bucky who are honestly the worst. (I'm sorry, but Bucky is boring. And Clint is even more boring than boring.)

Re: Team Captain America or team Iron Man?
MCU because screw everyone who wants to kill your best friend because something he did when he was brainwashed.
Comic books because something like the registration act would be abhorrent in real life and people who would support it would not be my friends.
Re: Team Captain America or team Iron Man?
The MCU is supposed to make Tony's side more reasonable than the comics ever were, but still the MCU government is awful as fuck and siding with what they want can in no way end well.

(Anonymous) 2016-03-11 01:57 am (UTC)(link)I'm Team Cap. For the movies I've watched (still haven't seen Iron Man 3), I feel like Steve's heart is in the right place and he's pretty good at sniffing out bullshit. He seems more together and responsible.
I think Tony has evolved over time but he's still wrapped up in himself (in his own mistakes, etc.). I don't trust Ross, and I side-eye Tony for working with him (apparently?). And we've just been shown that the government (SHIELD) can't always be trusted.
It depends on how it's framed in the movie, but I'm pretty sure Team Cap will get my vote.

(Anonymous) 2016-03-11 03:27 am (UTC)(link)In the movie verse, just based on who's on each team, I suspect I'll morally be on Cap's side, but emotionally want to side with Tony. I like the people on Tony's team better, but if I wanted help with ethics, they're not the team I'd choose.

(Anonymous) 2016-03-11 06:59 am (UTC)(link)In the MCU? Team Iron Man all the way. I'm in favor of legal process when at all possible. I have a hard time sympathizing with arguments that oversight for paramilitary organizations staffed entirely by people of mass destruction are a bad thing. (And having a paramilitary organization staffed entirely by people of mass destruction in the first place isn't?) And I generally have a hard time being in favor of the side with the guy who decides shooting someone in the face as a pre-emptive strike* is a valid tactic, especially when that side remains utterly determined to protect that guy from any consequences.
I might change my mind depending on how the movie actually plays out, but that's my stance going into it.
*Presumably. The part where Bucky tries to straight up blow Tony's head off shows Tony apparently uninjured, where he's visibly beaten up in most of his other appearances in the trailer. It's possible it'll turn out to be late in the movie instead, but honestly, there's not many situations in which just walking up and trying to murder an apparently-unarmed human being who isn't posing an immediate danger to anyone at all is a good thing to do. And I don't think they're going to make Tony into the second coming of the Red Skull to justify that.

(Anonymous) 2016-03-11 11:46 pm (UTC)(link)Also, Ross might be in charge of supervillain supermax, but he certainly wouldn't be in charge of an actual trial, any more than the warden of any other prison. His involvement is irrelevant, particularly since we don't know at what point he's going to get involved.
It'd be one thing if Steve's motivation was "I want to be the one to bring my pal in because this Ross guy is a total lunatic", or if the film was about him trying to expose legal corruption/dig up proof of Hydra fuckery/otherwise ensure that Bucky has a fair trial. I just can't sympathize with the motivations as shown in the trailer and other promotional material.
