Re: For never was a story of more woe than this of Juliet and her Romeo

Yeah, but I still think he gets a raw deal. As a half-elf, a lot of his family is just gone. Pretty sure Dior and his sons are considered mortal, so Elrond will never meet them. He's never going to see his brother and children again. And I'm pretty sure that the Feanorians will never be released from Mandos.

I know fanon likes to have elves reincarnate all the time but from canon, it sounds like that's actually not as common. Or, at least, you have to wait a long time. So, I'd wager he's not going to see too many friends. And, I wonder if a lot of his friends (like maybe Thranduil? Celeborn?) remained in Middle-earth and he won't ever see them again. Maglor would be on that list.

Then there's the fact his father is pretty much consigned to sail forever. It really feels like Earendil and Elwing are taken out of elven society. If Elrond ever does get to see them, it's probably rare.

And I'm not sure his relationship with his wife is going to be that great. Who knows what kind of healing she's done and if it's sufficient? I'm pretty sure that whatever happens, she's not the same person she was.

He might get to be reunited with Gil-galad and some other friends but there's no denying he's lost a lot more than other elves - losses that aren't going to be remedied.
