The Edwardians had big cities, a comprehensive train network,* steam power, a fully fledged industrial economy, fast communications via the post office. Photographs. Motor cars were appearing. Electricity was beginning to be a thing. There were football and cricket leagues and championships which people followed as they do today. None of that was true of the Regency.

In many ways, the Edwardian world is a lot closer to ours than it was to the Regency.

* Admittedly the railways were getting going during the Regency, but they didn't take off until George IV was actually on the throne, and certainly didn't start achieving their potential until into Victoria's reign.
