Domestic thread!

[personal profile] caerbannog 2016-03-12 01:23 am (UTC)(link)
Ask your questions here!

My question is: How does everyone sort their dirty dishes? I put plates/bowls into the sink. Cups go to the side, cutlery goes in the cups.

Sort?

Dirty dishes go in a jumbled pile until the pile is in danger of toppling over. Then they are washed. Then the cycle repeats itself.

Same.

Generally I try to do any and all dishes in the sink at the end of the day before I take my shower and go to bed. But if I'm really tired, I might go, "Eh, we didn't use THAT many today..."

A pile is a real method of sorting and don't let anyone tell you otherwise!

Right now we have a dishwasher, which I'm grateful for because I hate dishes.

This thread is reminding me of the dishes I'm ignoring....

LOL? Sort? I wash my dishes immediately after I use them. Takes 5 minutes max. No cockroaches or spending ages standing in front of the sink scraping dried food off of a heap of old dishes for me, even if I could stand the sight of dirty dishes in my sink.

No sorting, we do dishes generally after every meal or they get put in the dishwasher right away.

I cannot wrap my mind around the fact that there are people who can bear to have dirty dishes sitting in their sink for more than one hour at the most. How the fuck can people stand it?

I wash the dishes once a week anon :P That's what happens when you're solo, doing it straight away is a waste of water and time.

Most dishes get washed after using them. Our sink is divided, so if for some reason we put it off until the next day, I put it in the right sink (away from the dish rack) to soak.

I basically do them right away. I hate dirty dishes being left out. I'm not even that clean of a person, I'm pretty messy, but I hate anything that leaves smells or grows bacteria.

Nothing goes into the sink except pots in need of soaking.

Everything that isn't a pot or knife or cooking utensil goes in the dishwasher.

All dishes are done before I go to bed, and put away when I get up in the morning (usually while I'm waiting for my tea).

My kitchen almost never has filthy dishes laying around.

Over the course of the day, most everything goes into the sink, unless it is large/heavy (like most pots), or very breakable (like wineglasses). Then everything gets washed in the evening after dinner.

By size, in the dishwasher.

I stack plates and then bowls in one stack to the side, mugs together and any stackable plastic-type cups stacked. Cutlery goes in one big mug so it won't topple over. Nothing in the sink until it's time to wash up.

Same here. Pans are set to soak if needed, otherwise they stay on the stove untik washing up.

Yup. I have a damn small sink, so.... Generally, everything's washed up either before bed or first thing in the morning, and we don't generate all that many dishes, anyway.
