No one would care about his death if he were a girl? Have you BEEN in fandom lately? The outrage over fridging would still not have died out.

I think a lot of people want him beck because Wanda/Pietro dynamic, actually.

Yeah, but I think Lexa is the first hashtag I've ever seen for a female character's death? Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, my memory for fandom shit outside my own experiences isn't great. But you couldn't fucking get away from #COULSONLIVES, for example. :/

I just think his death was a complete waste of his character, it was really hard for me to care because we'd only just started getting to know him then 'bam, dead' like oh no? I'm not advocating for his return but I'm not broken up over him being gone either.

Though I will mourn the lack of the Wanda+Pietro dynamic we could have gotten in later movies, I did like how they cared for one another in AoU.

Same. I was super annoyed by his death cause it's such a waste. I really like him in the comics and wanted to see more of him (even if he didn't look right to me... but same with the X-men movie one, so...) Couldn't they have waited for one more movie?

Yeah, we could have gotten to see more of his as a character(outside of being a caring brother to Wanda) and then if they decided to kill him it would have meant more than just 'oh, okay then'.

yeah I was really annoyed because we JUST met him, and he has such a cool ability, why not give him some screen time first so we can see what his character is capable and enjoy his various dynamics (especially with Wanda)? It also would have made his death more impactful.

Agreed, he could have been expanded on more(showcased his powers and dynamics with other characters) and then die in a later movie. But in the same movie he was introduced? That just made it a cheap shock-value death that lacked any substance or weight.

I would have been even unhappier if Wanda died.

(Anonymous) 2016-03-13 10:29 pm (UTC)(link)
I can't decide if I'm upset that he died or not. I love Pietro and Wanda (that whole family, actually) in the comics, so theoretically I would love to see it play out onscreen. However, I don't think the movie did a very good job with Pietro and Wanda, so maybe it is better that he isn't around to be screwed up any more.

They'd care if he were a girl. Freaking out over dead women is very in vogue in fandom right now.

That said, I think most people are actually frustrated because his death wasn't earned. It was very Whedon-y and Coulson-y, with the added problem of just not making much sense in-story. We saw Pietro able to very easily negotiate bullets before, so his death felt forced and cheap.

I felt the same way. The way he died didn't work for me.

I want him back because I love Wanda and Pietros dynamic in the comics and movies and I thought he was pretty funny. :(
I am interested in how they're gonna deal with it in Civil War though.
