What is your favorite platform/site for reading fanfic?

(Anonymous) 2016-03-13 08:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Personally, I like AO3.

AO3 is ok, but I'm starting to wander Fanfiction more. AO3 is too filled with tumblr lingo for my taste. And waaaay too many reader-inserts. The site in itself is great though.

AO3 for me too. I like FFN but especially with older fic the formatting is often screwed on there.

A03 has the most comfortable reading format for me. I always have to turn the style off when reading fics on LJ so I can make the text bigger without it disappearing off-screen.

It depends on the fandom. Some are more active on ff.net, others on AO3. For older fic, it's ff.net. Especially older Star Wars and Harry Potter fic where a lot of the older archives have gotten deleted over the years.

Definitely. I'm reading on both sites, but I've grown weary of the incessant "let's shoehorn these characters into this unrelated fandom" crap that AO3 loves so much. Given that I often look into obscure fandoms, this is even more galling.

Given that I still read HP fic, FFN is one of my favourites.

AO3 in every single way. I'm a big fan and for me it's just strictly better than any other site.

I generally use AO3 these days but I don't read much. I'll look at FFN too, but I hate their porn ban.

For original fic, I go to Adultfanfiction, but that place has always been a trainwreck and I'm pretty sure it's getting worse. Still, I haven't really found a better place to read original "fan"fiction (like, written in the same style, if you will, as fanfiction, and online, regularly updated, free, etc)

AO3. I love the tagging system.

Serious/porn fic reading: AO3.

Finding the weirdest fic to have a laugh: FF.net every time.

And that is fine. Personally I find its search system a nightmare and its category displays to be clunky at best. It takes far too long to sort through the irrelevant returns and find the gold. At least on FF.net you can tell at a glance what is dross and what isn't, and it has a good filtering system to whittle down irrelevant returns now so you don't even have to see them anymore.

Same. I also read it on memes and even fanfiction.net, but AO3 is my fav.

It depends on what I'm actually looking for. If I just want to browse and read without being concerned with what I end up reading, I go to FF.net. But if I'm planning on going through to find something that pushes all my story buttons, I go to AO3 because I like the filtering system better.

Ao3 and I still like going through well organized (but dead) LJ comms

I like both really, because they're both big and popular enough that if I can't find something I'm looking for on one site, I can always find it on the other.

AO3. Mostly because I go for reading smut.

AO3, no competition whatsoever.

On a side note, are there any old X-Files people here who remember Gossamer? Man, that site was basic, but pretty awesome given its age.

AO3 for newer fandoms, like Dragon Age, SPN, The Hobbit.

FFN for older ones, like Harry Potter and random looks in old animes.

I noped out of FFN eons ago due to all the malware -- have they cleaned it up?
