Would you say this is true in all circumstances or would you make a distinction for different types of media?

I feel that some on-going series have a story they need/want to tell and that it can be done in about 5 seasons, depending on how big it is. But, I feel like a procedural can go on forever. Law and Order took cases from everyday life, they changed up the cast, I don't remember too many season-long arcs - it made sense that it went on forever. There's rarely anything new or fresh in the detective genre, so it's not like solving murders gets old. And, you don't have to catch every episode to keep up.

I agree on procedurals, at least for many of them. Law and Order was good right up until the end. And Criminal Minds, IMHO, is still good.

I'd honestly end procedurals right the hell now, but that's 'cuz I'm sick of them so ignore me :P

Frankly, I'm tired of rooting for cops. At LEAST give us a show about Internal Affairs.

It's funny you say that; the Hollywood version of Internal Affairs is very different from the reality, which is that most IA departments are just as corrupt as the cops they're keeping an eye on.

There was one! It was on Lifetime, but it was actually pretty good. It was called Against the Wall.

I do agree with you, though. I wish there were more. We do get defense lawyer shows. But I hate that in general whenever you have a show about the criminal justice system, the side that isn't the main characters is always evil. Feds vs. local cops on say Castle vs. Criminal Minds. Defense attorneys where your heroes are prosecutors and prosecutors where your heroes are defense attorneys.
