Get the 3DS. The DS is pretty much defunct at this point. There's several different flavors of it, though 'cuz Nintendo can't leave well enough alone and keep releasing updated versions.

Anon above mentioned the 2DS, which is more in my price range and same gen as the 3DS. I don't care about 3D; is there any other reason to get the 3DS?

There's several different flavors of it, though 'cuz Nintendo can't leave well enough alone and keep releasing updated versions.

I noticed. I looked up the Nintendo DS on Amazon to get a feeling for how much it costs and was kinda overwhelmed by all the different options.

The new version has updated hardware (meaning reduced load times) and they've improved the controls. It probably depends on the kind of games you want to play, though.
