I don't think it's too complicated to say that the MRA hate speech was bad but that the piss bottle throwing was also bad and probably not a necessary response

Yes, but one thing is much much worse than the other. If allowing one less worse thing stops people from doing the other much worse thing, I am ok with.

Punching someone is bad, but if you punch someone holding a gun to a child's head, I will not scolde you for it.

Yeah, no, obviously there are trade-offs in any moral situation. Sure. But we're not really talking about that kind of situation here. This isn't, like, the trolley problem. The piss bottling is not a necessary part of this equation. We have plenty of other options. It's absurd to try and justify it on those terms.

But it's not. It makes it worse. What on Earth makes you think that "feminists threw a bottle of piss at me" is going to lessen his anger towards women? Think more rationally than a five-year-old, please.
