I've always considered things like the ~cultural history~ of the HP world to be nothing more than pretty, mildly interesting window dressing for the real meaty stuff that people actually care about: stories about the trials and tribulations of the characters we've come to love. It doesn't surprise me that other people get deeper into than I do, but I do find it odd that people are demanding the author go just as deep as well -- it's not like she ever really did it before?

I agree. Issues of cultural appropriation aside, the people who are blasting her for the "missed opportunity" of the cool things she could have done with various Native American mythologies are acting like she owes them something completely out of the realm of anything she ever planned.

It's like if you have your own idea for a book, and someone else writes a book, and then you get mad at them because their book isn't yours. Why on earth would it be? They had their own plan and they can't read your mind.
