Yeah it kinda bugs me too, but then again the Skywalker family is a million times more dramatic and angsty than the Organa family, and is more developed too, so of course fans are going to gravitate to that. But yeah there's a lot of weird treatment of Leia's parents in fanfic.

I'd ask β€œIs fandom that dismissive of the Organa's?" but then I took about thirty seconds to think and realized I never hear about them. So I get it, it's just that the Skywalker's are the famous, dramatic ones with the great destiny, and people focus on that.

I kind of want backstory fanfc on the Organas now, though.

And I've literally read zero SW fics before. So I have no idea where to look.

Me either, really. I guess AO3 would be the place, but I haven't done much looking. Maybe someday! (A long, plotty backstory about the Organa's could be interesting.)

Bail showed up qukte a bit in both incarnations of the EU. I still remember the radio show version who was different.

That isn't too surprising! The EU is a lot more fleshed out, but I never delved into it. Wish I had now, but I wouldn't even know where to start, and I don't have time atm.

Well as far as Bail Organa is concerned he had big roles in the Star Wars Force Unleashed video game which is now non-canon

and a few appearances in the new Rebels cartoon

If you ignore the prequels you could take the ROTJ real mother line to say she identified more with her bio mom but in canon, yeqh she's sn Organa through and through.

fwiw, the Princess Leia miniseries comic dealt explicitly with the Organa legacy and what that meant for the galaxy's surviving Alderaanians. It was, I thought, very good.

(Anonymous) 2016-03-16 11:49 pm (UTC)(link)
They were so barely in the movies that I can see why people focus on the Skywalker side of things.

(Anonymous) 2016-03-16 11:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Even in the OT they were glorified extras. Then they got blowed up by Tarkin, and were overshadowed by the angstfest that was the Leia-Luke-Vader thing in the last third of Jedi. Easy to see why fans go for the onscreen emotional meat.

(Anonymous) 2016-03-16 11:57 pm (UTC)(link)
If people only get their Star Wars from the movies, Bail doesn't really have a ton to do in comparison to the Skywalker clan. He's much more present in the EU.

(Anonymous) 2016-03-17 12:07 am (UTC)(link)
EU or Legends?

(Anonymous) 2016-03-17 12:17 am (UTC)(link)
You fucking bitch, get out!

(Anonymous) 2016-03-17 12:38 am (UTC)(link)
Both, since Bail has a presence in the cartoons.

It bugs me too, especially since Bail Organa is one of my favorite Star Wars characters. I wish the fandom would aknowledge that Leia had a very different experience to Luke. Luke's aunt and uncle raised him as their nephew, and he clearly had issues in his relationship with them. Leia was raised as an Organa, they were her parents. And considering Vader was the one who held her while her planet was destroyed and also the one who froze the man she loved in carbonite, it makes sense that her feelings about him would be different.

Aren't you supposed to be off weeping in your cups somewhere? Get thee hence from this place unto a more fitting cave of depression and misery until such times as the concern trolls see fit to deem you happy enough to return.

Hahaha, yes, I don't know. I've been here. We have company at the moment, so I've been late to the post when I'm usually here right when it has posted. But I was here yesterday so I'm not sure why people thought I was missing?

(Anonymous) 2016-03-17 03:16 am (UTC)(link)
Is it ever said where the princess title comes from? Since Bail isn't referred to as royalty in the movies, I liked to assume his wife was the royal one.

Yep, she was the Queen and Bail was her Viceroy (and Senator, I guess).
