Lots of people seem to like those kinds of organizations, OP! You should be able to find lots of original fiction about it.

Have you considered trying anime, OP? Because there are a LOT of those.

My issue with these types of organizations and minor characters in them is how a lot of them get treated like Red Shirts. Too often you know that if anybody but the protags to up against an enemy, they'll end up dead or just fail. I wish more series managed to balance it in such a way that the protag can still save the day, but without making everybody else out to be incompetent...

Try the La Résistance trope page , you'll probably find some that meet your standard.

I love this too. The Rangers are my favorite. I love how they protect the Hobbits and places like Bree without needing any kind of thanks. Indeed, they're often treated with scorn by these people but they still protect them anyway. And, if their description when they meet Aragorn in Rohan is anything to go on, they're badasses.

I actually prompted on the Hobbit kink meme about the Hobbits going about their lives while the Rangers fought battles just out of sight. That stuff fascinates me.

The first thing I thought of when I tried to come up with examples of this trope is the Children of the Light from WoT, and you do not want to treat them as role models. xD

It is a cool trope, though! Uh, who are those guys on the ice wall from GoT/ASoIaF? Crows was their nicknames, do not remember the actual name...but I don't know if they turn out to be awful since I stopped at book 3

The Grey Wardens in the Dragon Age universe. The books are actually quite good.

Ranger's Apprentice books might be a good fit. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ranger's_Apprentice
