Re: Do you judge people...

I dunno. What are we defining as tolerance? I can watch a sad/depressing movie. I just don't want to. I get no enjoyment out of it when I can turn on the news or read a paper and get the same misery.

Replied the same above but...

I hold nothing against people who don't feel up to watching a sad movie or who don't want to see a documentary about terrible things. But if they're like "only happy uplifting things 100% of the time, don't even talk to me about world news lalala" it gets... weird.

I could understand if it's a person who refuses to read a paper or watch the news because bad things happen, but avoiding that in fictional media (which is there to escape into) seems a weird thing to be judgemental about.

I mean, like I said, I CAN watch a sad/depressing film, but 99% of the time unless the storyline itself pulls me in, it's not something I'll seek out because to me fictional media is there for me to BE happy and uplifted when so many news stories focus on death, rape, racism, kidnappings, etc.

It's not ignoring that there are bad things in the world. It's honestly the opposite.

If it's 99% then my judgment doesn't apply to you. I keep saying "absolute 0" and "100%" for a reason.

so if someone just happens to like this one thing, maybe even for reasons other than it being sad, that negates the whole thing?

your approach to this is kind of odd to me

Re: Do you judge people...

Yes, because I've known people who go "I would love all the rest of it but one bad thing happens so I can't tolerate it, my feelings" and this isn't just temporarily or due to outside causes. And these people tend to have permanent fragility issues.

Yeah, I've known people with this, and they were all very... immature on multiple levels, I guess the right word would be? Like they couldn't handle anything that wasn't all sunshine and unicorns, either in media or in real life.

I guess that's a really specific response you're going for, which doesn't necessarily include all people who don't like any sad media.

You're not going to find ANYONE who is 100%. Even if they say they are, at that moment, it will not apply to them 100% of the time.

Except I have found more than one already? Trying to dictate the facts of my life to me isn't going to work here.
