This. Why in particular should they be leaping forward in technology the way we are now? We were stagnant too for ages.

I guess you've never heard of the Singularity, then.

In terms of Star Wars, the OP has a point, because what actually does make us remarkable is we've had all this tech innovation since the seventies that is entirely capitalism-based. Prior to that, technological advances have almost always been tied to being engaged in war. Your microwave is an artifact of the Cold War, for example, as is the Internet itself (started as ARPANET).

I'd suggest as a theory that the fact that the world of Star Wars has had no technological advancements is the embrace of socialism over capitalism. Show me a socialist society that has not gone stagnant at the level of advancement it was when it turned Socialist? THat's why Cuba still has 1950s cars and North Korea has been fumbling with rockets.

So, you know, yay capitalism.

...North Korea and Cuba are not socialist. They are communist.
