I'm pro race-bending, but I do understand why people were disappointed with how the new Wally was written in the Reboot, and I also understand why some people still want ginger Wally back (hey, nostalgia is a powerful thing).

But ever since DC Rebirth was announced, people have literally not been shutting up about them potentially bringing back "classic" (read: white) Wally, and it kinda makes me hope they'll keep black Wally instead and try to do better by him this time.

Because let's face it, while I don't think that everyone who misses ginger Wally is racist, the people who are the loudest about wanting "THE REAL WALLY" back certainly are.

His skin color was not the problem with this Wally, and you know it.

Why couldn't they make one of the big superheroes, like superman, Wonder Woman, or batman black instead?

Because it'd hurt sales. Also, Wonder Woman would require a complete revamp to be black. She's steeped in Greek myth and is meant to be Greek.

Not that a total rework can't be fun...

Amazons can be dark-skinned, though. There were Libyan Amazons as well as the ones in Anatolia, and even in DC Comics some of the Amazons are more African-looking.

Do you not remember the fans who wanted Gina Torres to play Wonder Woman years ago?

I'm entirely anti-racebending. But I think the majority of the backlash came from how DC treated the fans rather than the bending.

They took away a character everyone loved in favor of a bland, boring writer's pet that every other character in the universe was twisted to worship. Then there was that stupid reboot where they completely erased the character. Then after all the "Wally West will return" teasing and baiting...they gave us a character that most definitely was not Wally but insisted he was (and he's far from the only character to get that treatment in the nu52).

I don't mind a black Wally, but he was written horribly. And as much as I loved Barry allen in the 1990 Tv series... fuck, I miss my Wally.

So right now, I just want both. Black Wally and Ginger Wally. And Chunk. And Pied Piper being Wally's best friend. And Bart. And a million dollars while I am at it.

They racebent Wally to make sure he never becomes main Flash again. It's a sad truth but that's what it is. Otherwise if they wanted to be progressive, they would have worked on his introduction so much more.

It doesn't help that this guy is far from the Wally we know. And it hurts that he had such a distinct design before but he's now just Generic Black Kid No 102020202

Whenever I think about Flashfam, I get so bitter. Barry wasn't worth destroying an entire legacy.
