AYRT--Yeah, that's easy to know in the abstract, and if someone else told me this, I'd tell them to take a vacation and come back to scrape up the corpse when it was over. But even if I divorce sentiment from this entirely, I still have a huge financial stake in this clusterfuck--I stand to inherit my mother's house, but at this rate she might lose it. Like, I pay the utilities, so those haven't been shut off, but her health insurance lapses at the end of this month, and she never paid her Medicare bills, so even if she reenrolled by the end of this month, her coverage wouldn't start again until July first. I don't want to have to sell the house I grew up in to pay her bills when she dies, anymore than I want her to die miserable and drunk. And she'll die fast without her meds if she doesn't have health coverage, in pain, and not knowing who she is or who I am. Her brother made a big show of coming to visit to help her, took a look at the paperwork, let her get wasted, and said "yep, you're totally screwed I'm going home." I blame my mom and uncle for their choices, but even though I'll miss my mom (I miss her now tbh, she's vodka-mom at the moment) I'm terrified at maybe losing the house. I've known my mom's choices would kill her for a long time, but even at her worst she insisted that I'd get the house.

The house sounds nice but if it's all you have left at the end that's nto great.
