Actually I think Mary was at her very worst in the penultimate episode (where she outs Edith to her fiance). Mary has many good qualities but she is HORRIBLE to Edith, and so bewilderingly adored by so many others she is essentially a kind of Mary Sue, notwithstanding her awful behavior to so many. She is at her best when she doesn't have to be--that is, she is most likeable when she is championing someone (usually her lady's maid, Anna--they share a close friendship). Interesting character but yeah, she behaved absolutely dreadfully to Edith. Loved the ensuing smackdown by EVERYBODY.
