Maybe it's just me but I was under the impression they were never actually *involved*, and if they had any kids before she died I think it would have been mentioned. In any case, the shitty parent part would still apply: if he had a kid and decided to essentially abandon them to go stalk Anakin's progeny from afar instead... yeah, no Father of the Year awards for you, Obi-Wan.

Of course he might not have been aware of any child, but that would just make the whole thing too contrived and complicated to be really plausible as Rey's backstory. They'd have to explain the whole thing from the start (you can't rely on all the members of the audience being aware of secondary canon), and heavy exposition is never the best way to tell a story on film.

It's not that contrived that Obi-wan or any number of male characters in this series might have a child without realizing it. But, if we have to go the "everyone's related" route, I'd like her to be related to Shmi or Padme somehow, if for no other reason than to make Anakin's force ghost freak out even more about his stupid grandson.
