People who whine about older properties or adaptations of older properties ripping off newer ones are so aggravating. Especially when the older property doesn't have a lot of mainstream popularity, so the griping gains traction.

At least when people were whining about the LotR movies being generic high fantasy/D&D rip-offs, there was a wide enough fanbase to shoot down their ignorance.

Oh god, I remember that. I didn't even like the LOTR books when the movie came out, but those comments made me wince so hard.

I've met people who didn't bother reading LotR not because it was too long or too wordy but because it had no pictures.
