To be perfectly honest, you can't have a massive world-altering revolution in sexual tolerance and not expect people to act differently about sexuality. We have had huge increases in our understanding of sexuality, in our tolerance of sexuality, of course peoples' experiences and worldview and language are going to change. Why should a 14 year old's language and categories be determined by your experience, when they've only ever known an entirely different world?

Y'all won. This is one of the fruits of victory. Learn to live with it.

We can talk about the dimensions of sexuality and sexual orientation without calling non-queer people queer.

Why does their understanding of their experience and self-definition have to be in your terms, when those terms were devised in response to totally different experiences and conditions?

and considering gay persecution still happens and it isn't ancient history, it is fucking irresponsible and offensive to jump on the queer bandwagon when you aren't queer because it's the chic thing to do. if you aren't at risk of being disowned, fired from your job, kicked out of your apartment, beaten up, harassed, raped, murdered, imprisoned, fined, executed - don't call yourself queer.
