Oh, I read about this! There was a change in Disney corporate while it was in production, and the new people decided to focus on Marvel properties instead of developing other "boy" (read: action) franchises in-house. So they did no merchandising tie-ins, & just dumped it out there without fanfare.

It was a management failure.
