We get it folded in with bombthreats training every six months, which our company only really started doing in the mid-80s due to the continuing effects of NORAID.

Yeah the knife advice is pretty much don't panic and don't be a hero, that is what the cops are paid for. Pull the fire alarm and evacuate calmly. There is stuff like barricading doors to keep the knife nut out, if possible, and as a last resort to fling furniture at them. Obviously neither would work if it was someone with a gun, so knife danger is still less potentially deadly than gun danger.
