"It's painful for me to know that if I'm going to be in secondary education*, I'll never get to share the truly important books with my students--no David Foster Wallace, you know, stuff that resonates."

Bonus from the same guy: "[My student] fancies himself on my intellectual level, which is obviously deeply frustrating for me."

And my personal favorite, in a discussion regarding how non-white are not used to seeing themselves reflected in the literature they read for school: "I guess I really question the notion that you need to share a race with a character in order to connect with them. I mean, I'm a white man, and MY favorite book is, you know, I connect so easily with Haruki Murakami's Norwegian Wood, even though that's NOT about a white man."

This one was so over the top that I and several other people called him out, actually, and the veteran lecturer told him "you think your path to empathy is shorter, but I think that's your privilege talking." Which was gratifying.

*That's 6/7th-12th grade, for any non-Americans, so ages ~12-18

ughhhhhhh jesus i'm cringing so hard

this guy is awful

i've got one for you - we had to give presentations at university for a final assignment.

one lady was the sort who wears flowy rich-people hippie clothes that look like a sack and cost a mortgage, and spends each lesson interrupting people to tell them, in flowery language, why they're wrong, but it's okay, because everyone has ~different points of view~ love&light!

for her presentation, she gave an address beforehand acknowledging the first people's. in ghana language. this was for a bog-standard uni powerpoint.

i'm still cringing, even now.

That man should not be allowed to teach.

Hahahaha very typical of academia, unfortunately. Some people are not as good at hiding it as others though. But they are all kind of like that.
