It is never justified. To forestall the inevitable, yes I think it was wrong to hang senior Nazis after WW2. I'd rather they all grey old and weak in jail, even Hitler, because just like OBL and all the modern nasties, it proves that we have more humanity than they do. That is the only reason we have any moral right to judge them at all.
