lol I saw the picture and expected this to be another one of those totally unrelated secrets with a cute animal for lack of a better background. Not that there's anything wrong with those!

Personally I like baby storylines but the canons I follow have very little in that category; not sure if I'd feel the same if they were everywhere I looked.

AGREED. Fuck mpreg too.

(Anonymous) 2016-03-21 11:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Sorry, but a baby is way more life changing than a cat. There's only so much story you can mine frome getti g a cat in a show that isn't about a person and their cat. And even then it's kind of limited.

Though, I wouldn't mind a story about a woman and her cat trying to find an SO that fit their lifestyle.

mte

On the second point, sometimes there's a grumpy cat who hates a new bf or gf...

Recs for fic about getting pets?

[personal profile] feotakahari 2016-03-21 11:19 pm (UTC)(link)
I'll start with a great Prototype fic: https://m.fanfiction.net/s/6360997/1/Mittens

I agree. Baby storylines are never done well. And it can make the parents look stupid and selfish depending on the canon.

(Anonymous) 2016-03-21 11:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Aww. I could go for that.

Animals don't cause drama and emotional upheaval though. And when they do...well, it's usually because something bad has happened to the animal. And I don't want to read about that ):

(Anonymous) 2016-03-21 11:46 pm (UTC)(link)
if you're talking about actual shows (since you use the phrase 'on set') don't baby plots usually happen because the actual actress gets pregnant and they don't want to write her out for six months?

not every time, maybe, but often, esp outside of soap operas

All I can think of is that Pokemon (kink meme) crack fic where Volkner and Flint adopt a Bidoof and it turns out to be a hyperintelligent alien. I'm sorry, Secret Poster, but I can no longer take the "X and Y adopt a pet instead of a babby" storyline seriously. At all.

(Anonymous) 2016-03-22 12:13 am (UTC)(link)
True. The only time I can recall that happening is when Andy and April got Champion. I liked that storyline, so yeah, I'll take more.

Well while I agree with you, other commenters who have said that a pet doesn't have the same level of impact as a baby are right in that.

I just wish there was less baby!fic all together because babies often become the center of the storyline.

We have Clyde and he's the best!

I detest babies ever after, simply because of how prevalent it is.

(Anonymous) 2016-03-22 01:15 am (UTC)(link)
I know, right? It like never happens in real life.

Yeah babies are ok but cats dogs and probably any other animal are cuter.

(Anonymous) 2016-03-22 02:00 am (UTC)(link)
I like cats/dogs 1000% more than I like babies, but in all fairness to showrunners, there's only so much mileage you can get out of them for story-drama. There just aren't that many characters worrying about never being able to raise a dog because their parents were bad pet owners, or characters worrying about their wild youth meaning their cat will never grow up to be a functioning member of society. :(
