Yes!! I always wished there was more of this. Tolkien did a lot of really fun stuff with cultures and language in those books, but he could've put in more idiomatic language regarding the various races' non-human features.

I also remember a fic where "stragglefoot" meant a dirty or sleazy person, and...I don't remember if it was the same fic or a different fic, but there was one that had a phrase like "scare the hair off his toes" or something like that.
