NAYRT yeah it is. it does sound like a russian diminutive though, and iirc they never commented on it but regularly implied it in the series that she was "foreign" to mask her strangeness. also, her sudden love for capitalism is the cliche of the liberated communist. I loved it.

DA. In the flashbacks she's implied as being some sort of proto-scandinavian. It was pretty neat, because my Swedish brain went "there are actually WORDS in that mumbo-jumbo that they are speaking that registers as REAL WORDS! Enough that I can mostly understand what they are saying! They even correspond to the subtitiles!"

I know, the whole troll deal made sense in a scandinavian context. still, in contrast to modern american context the "former communist immigrant" stereotype applied. maybe she was from early estonia :P
