Wow. Somehow, I thought that was Michael Weatherly and that you were talking about NCIS until I got to "Shanks crush." I was even like, "wait, isn't Weatherly's character named Tony?"

I see Michael Shanks has not lost his a ability to stonily scowl at a camera. Is his other big acting choice still to mouth breathe at things?

I used to love Daniel on SG-1 but got completely turned off when I found out that Michael Shanks is actually a huge dick. I can't really watch SG-1 now because Daniel's niceness seems incredibly fake to me. It's a shame because I love the early seasons of SG-1. :/

Shanks was dating (and I think married to?) the actress that played Sha're during SG-1. When they broke up he reportedly got her kicked off the show. He wanted Daniel to be more important and have a bigger role (also, iirc, to be more action-y?) on the show but when TPTB refused he left the show. He came back when he couldn't get any other major roles to a bigger paycheck. There were rumors back in the day that MS is the reason why Daniel was all gung-ho in the later seasons. Plus he just really came across as dickish in interviews back in the day.

Yes to all of this. And honestly, actually his Saving Hope character is actually kind of a dick too. I stopped watching after season 1 mostly because he was supposed to be the main character and was really dickish.

My SO and I are watching SG-1 right now--I've never seen it before, we're getting to the end of S7. Honestly, I can't blame Michael Shanks for wanting a bigger role, especially after S5: there were probably 3-4 episodes IN A ROW where he and Amanda Tapping had, generously, 8 lines each and 2-3 minutes of screentime, max. Regardless of whether he is or isn't an asshole personally, he and Tapping probably spent a quarter of S5 barely in episodes, which I'm sure neither of them was happy about. S7 has had more episodes featuring Daniel and Sam than previous seasons, and not just in the "Sam/Daniel is the buttmonkey" sense, which, honestly, episodes where no one is the buttmonkey are just a nice change of pace in general.

I don't like this show and I'm pretty sure the only reason I watch it is because I only get CTV and Global. But the show has gotten way better now that Alex knows and the seeing dead people thing has taken a backseat to the interpersonal relationships between the cast.

Having never seen Stargate, can't say much about the Shanks.
