Inspired by #2

Have you ever run across a character exactly like yourself?

Did you like them? Hate them?

If you haven't, would you want to? Would you like them? Hate them?

Yazawa Nico from Love Live is so like me it's unbelievable. We both have dark hair, we're the eldest child, we try way too hard to be cute when we're actually whiny and babyish, the way she acts with her mum is even the way I act with my mum! And we're the same height and have the same zodiac sign! I don't really hate Nico, but the franchise does a good job of making her likeable despite how obnoxious she can be. I do hate that seeing her makes me think of my own flaws, but I still like her character in general. She's just my least favourite girl because of this.

Liz Lemon looking for her doppleganger new best friend in a Barnes & Noble bathroom struck uncomfortably close to home.

I haven't, and I'd want to.

But I don't see it happening because I'm not drama enough to make an interesting story. I'm the anti drama. I would take a crisis situation and sigh my way through it.

Robin Scherbatsky was pretty close to identical to me, for a while. I'm just a lot more queer lol

Forgot to add: I liked her.

When I was 18, I read a Philip Roth novel and got a pretty good idea of what I looked like to my parents. Not fun, lol

Which novel was that?

(My best friend gave me "When She Was Good" years ago and said the main character reminded her of me, and I've never been able to bing myself to read it out of fear of finding out why.)

Of all things....American Pastoral. Only parts of the book, not the whole thing, but...yeah

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I recently read a novel where the main character was very similar to me. She even had the same birthday as me and lived in the same area. I ended up feeling very sad for her because she had a turbulent family life and it reminded me of how I had grown up. There were things that happened to me that still affect me to this day and I sometimes feel like I'm a big whiner because these instances only lasted three years and the rest of my life so far has been a good one. Similar things happened to the character and I ended up crying at the end because I was so happy that she was on a path to normalcy and that people were telling her it was normal for her to be traumatized.

I relate a lot to Hermione Granger. I love her, though. She's like a better version of me.

Meredith Gray is like me in terms of her mental health issues and generally more pessimistic worldview. And I go back and forth on her. Sometimes I like her, sometimes I don't.

I tend to like characters who are like me. Not sure exactly why. I do recognize that I probably wouldn't get along with them at all IRL, though.

I wonder if it's because they always end up being way more badass than me. It just makes me happy to see that.

Never. Any character who comes close is invariably too much of a nerd or too much of a rebel and ne'er the twain shall meet.

Although one of the characters on House came pretty damn close, she was simply not enough of a nerd to really be exactly me. She's probably very close to what it would look like on paper if someone were to try to write me, however.

which one?

Nick Carraway from The Great Gatsby is all the worst things about me: cowardly, doesn't appreciate his friends until they're gone, judges people for what their actions without doing anything to stop them. And his last line to Gatsby? The way he focuses on it are just like me when I lie to sound better to myself.

It's the only book I've ever thrown across the room. I love it.

People have been telling me I'm a lot like Tsukishina from Haikyuu!! - I generally agree but probably for a different reason than they think. While yes, I am fairly tall, blonde, have the same glasses, generally always carry headphones, am usually the deadpan snarker type, his general character development hits very close. I'm definitely a chronic underachiever who doesn't really try hard but still gets annoyed when I fail at things. I have a hard time getting invested in things and loud, super invested people tend to annoy me.
The only thing that doesn't fit, really, is that I'm generally a very caring person who worries a lot about what other people think of me, so I'm basically like Tsukishima with an (un-)healthy dose of Yamaguchi's caring, self-conscious nature.

I was actually just discussing this this morning, but Rachel Green from F.R.I.E.N.D.S. reminds me entirely too much of myself in all the ways that I don't like myself. (Ftr, the friend I was discussing this said Phoebe reminds her a lot of me, which had me over the moon. She was perplexed though because I had started out saying how I would say that Phoebe is objectively the worst person out of the six. I love her & she's my favorite female, but she's probably the worst person out of the whole gang.) I like Rachel, but I like her the least because of our unflattering similarities.

Also, Mindy Lahiri in The Mindy Project is basically me. I love her. (Or I did. I haven't kept up with the show this season & I didn't finish last season either.)
