That's exactly how I feel about their relationship. And it really bugs me that the fandom practically treats the ship like it's canon at this point.

[Petty related rant: on my dash recently, there was one of those tumblr zodiac posts that's so popular, "The Signs as (fill in the blank)" and this one was "The Signs as Famous Femslash Couples" -- now, it didn't say canon couples, but every couple on the list was canon except for Pearlmethyst. To make it worse, they could have replaced it with Pearl/Rose to make the entire list actually canon.]

Yikes, glad I never saw that post. I never hate on people for their ships, but there have been times when I've gotten irritated at how hard some people push Pearlmethyst. It's to the point where I don't want to mention my opinion on the pairing on my own blog because it's so popular and - like you said - a lot of fans act like it's practically canon.

And it's weird how Rose/Pearl is almost...ignored? by much of the fandom. But that's another issue.

I didn't even realize Pearl and Amethyst had "shippy moments." (Then again, I have a hard time thinking of "Amethyst" and "shippy" in the same sentence, except maybe with Vidalia.)

There are people who ship Pearl and Amethyst? OK, I get it. Steven is the kid, Garnet is a ship, it's "pair the spares." It's the opposite of canon, though.

I feel you, OP.

Their relationship reminds me of, like... Pearl has unexpectedly taken a 'mother' role on, but with Amethyst growing up, there are all these new tensions between them. The conflicts feel very much like a mother with a teenage daughter, not like potential lovers.

Ugh, I agree. Pearl/Amethyst feels creepily incestuous and I basically hate any ships with Amethyst because she seems strongly aro/ace to me.

mte, OP. I view their relationship as "sisterly" so seeing pearl/amethyst kind of squicks me out. Normally I let shippers do whatever but seeing someone ship that would probably make me unfollow them on whatever social media platform we're on.

Yeah, I get you, OP. I see people say things like "it's classic opposites attract!" and I look at it and look at it and just can't see it as romantic or shippy at all. I can certainly see how they've grown closer over the course of the series, but I think they both have about a thousand and one issues they need to unpick before they could even begin to see each other in a romantic light.
