Wait, what, no, I had no idea. All I knew was that some fans took it personally that he made movies they didn't like and went out of their way to attack him personally that. I hate that for the same reason that personal attacks on Rowling was one of the things that soured me to the Harry Potter fandom. But ugh, no, I did not know he did that, I'm going to have to google tomorrow and find some links because that is gross.

NAYRT, but I don't believe the other anon is correct. IIRC, it was a Han/Leia story called "Slow Boat to Bespin" that prompted the Lucasfilm crackdown at the time, not slash per se. The crackdown was regarding any explicit sex, anything that could be seen as pornographic.

I don't think any lawsuits ever materialized, but I haven't read through the entire page above. I just remember the kerfuffle from "back in the day".

They (Lucas and co.) deemed slash, regardless of how PG-rated it was, as "explicit" by virtue of being slash, which is pretty disgusting. Also a rather large contrast to Gene Roddenberry's otherwise encouraging approach towards slash at roughly around the same time period.

"Slow Boat to Bespin" was PG-13 at worst, so it wasn't anything that could be classified as hard-core porn. I'm not saying that Lucasfilm may not have had an eye on Star Trek's K/S and thinking that they didn't want that slash movement happening in Star Wars - that was probably a factor - but I don't think any of the evidence supports the narrative that they were specifically going after slash. Slash was dumped in the "porn" bin along with het.

And yes, definitely do compare and contrast with Gene Roddenberry's take on it - the two fandoms had diametrically opposed approaches to dealing with their fans. Interesting from a fandom history perspective, but it didn't really change things.
