Those have been my Phantom thoughts since day one, but I expressed much better than I've been able to.

I'm sorry you yourself dealt with such a bad friendship, nonny.

This makes me want to rewatch it again with this interpretation in mind. It's been so long since I've read/watched phantom of the opera that I honestly can't remember how I felt about him at all

raoul was pretty boring, but the phantom was creepy af

No, Raoul was an abusive jerk too. She would have been better off on her own.

(Anonymous) 2016-03-26 09:15 pm (UTC)(link)
At the very least he was arrogant and entitled.

Christine/Meg ftw.

I wouldn't necessarily call him abusive based on what we see but he's pretty bad at taking "no" seriously.

And exactly how was he abusive?

Maybe they're thinking more of *shudder* "Love Never Dies" Raoul. Now that's an abusive jerk.

I swear, LND is ALW's Id-fic that he had enough money to make into a full-scale musical instead of languishing in a fanfic archive like other bad fanfics.

Would that make Erik an Andy Stu?

I try to pretend it doesn't exist.

(Anonymous) 2016-03-27 02:35 am (UTC)(link)
Raoul wasn't abusive. He was thoughtless and put his foot in his mouth a lot, or at least book Raoul was. ALW musical Raouls really depend on the actor.

I've always been a Christine/Erik shipper, for, um... 20 years ... but I never hated Raoul, and truthfully, to make my ship not incredibly fucked up, I have to stick to AUs. Raoul's not a bad guy, he just has a lot of growing up to do and is being pulled a lot of different ways--he loves Christine, but he has his naval career and also his family name to uphold and his childhood friend is apparently hallucinating angels--can't exactly blame him for flipping out, and it's not as though Erik doesn't outdo him on the horrific overreaction scale by a factor of one million. Compared to Erik, Raoul is a fucking paragon. (Well, okay, maybe excepting Hadley Fraser's Raoul, who was abysmal, but then, I didn't think much of Ramin's Phantom, either.)

I just never understood why they had to talk about their super se ret Phantom catching plans right there on the opera where the Phantom could potentially listen to everything.
