i've been thinking about deleting them all lately since i waste too much time on it and i need to focus on rl. idk if i should announce im deleting all my accounts or just do it without any notice? i feel like if i announce it then my internet friends would try to convince me to stay

I did and now all I do is post anon now. Honestly you'll probably find other ways to waste time online, so take a total break (or at least as much as you can) from the internet.

I've abandoned my Tumblr before, which was the only social media I was using back then, and though I did miss it for a bit, I soon felt a lot better for it. I wanted to leave Tumblr because it was making me feel so bad about myself. I'm back but on a new and much smaller blog, I'm following very few blogs and I'm really glad I decided to do that.

I did this too and it made my Tumblr experience so much better. No more drama.

yeah i had to stop going on tumblr because it was really dragging me down. now i just check up on it once a week and then i'm reminded of why i left.

I found it much easier to just stop using them and then go back if/when I feel like it. Deleting isn't all that different from announcing and people get all crazy about it and send emails or try to track you down. Just going quiet for a bit doesn't draw that kind of attention.

Same here. Except FB, which I finally deleted after not using for 3+ years because Zuckerberg is such a control freak.

Say that you're deleting because you need to focus on RL for a while. You can always come back later. And it's better to announce because people will be less worried.

if you honestly and truly consider them friends, then it's probably a good idea to announce that you'll be deleting so that they don't freak out when you drop off the face of the earth. if you just mean that they're people on the internet that you occasionally talk to but don't really have much of a connection with then do whatever I guess

It depends on who you keep in touch with via what network. I've known friends to post on facebook that they're deleting their account and to PM them for their number or email if you want to keep in touch.

I also had another friend who just deleted his facebook account and I honestly didn't notice because we only ever text or see each other in person.

yeah, i barely use any of them as it is. i don't think i've been on my facebook in 6 years

i mean say something if you think there are people you wouldn't see in real life that might start worrying about you, but other words just delete them

I only keep my facebook for two reasons:

1. My sister, her husband, and daughter live far away from me and that's the only way I most consistently see pics and updates on the kiddo.

2. I'm in the theatre and have a lot of actor friends, some of whom use fb to promote their shows/invite their friends. And I've gone to a couple I wouldn't have otherwise without fb.

Been there, done that. I've got my current lot now but I can easily imagine myself deleting these ones too.

I usually do it without notice. The only time I did give notice was for my 10 year old DA account with some 6k followers. So they can download and save the pictures they liked.

I've actually done this. I deleted facebook, twitter, and even tumblr for a while. I have a tumblr now, but only 3 people know about it offline. I also have this account, but there aren't any posts on my blog. I only post here.

Important note: Delete without notice. Or else you will hear crap and "reasons to say" from them. It will be a little hard at first, but after week 2, you won't even think about it anymore.
